The Black Tulip by Alexandre Dumas is a historical adventure novel first published in 1850, blending political intrigue, romance, imprisonment, and obsession against the backdrop of seventeenth-century Holland during the tulip mania period.

This attractive 1912 Ward Lock edition forms part of The World Library series and features a compact decorative binding with gilt floral detailing and striking Art Nouveau-inspired title pages. Dumas, best known for The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers, tells the story of Cornelius van Baerle, a tulip grower falsely imprisoned during political upheaval, whose dream is to cultivate the first true black tulip and claim a prestigious prize.

The novel combines suspense, historical drama, and themes of loyalty, ambition, and perseverance, making it an appealing edition for collectors of classic literature, decorative bindings, miniature books, and early twentieth-century publishing.

A particularly charming small-format edition with strong shelf appeal.
